For decades, the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) had been a trusted name in developing young men through outdoor adventure, service, and leadership. However, as cultural and societal norms began to change, many families and church communities felt that the BSA was moving away from its traditional values.

In 2013, this growing concern reached a tipping point. A group of parents, church leaders, and former scouting volunteers, committed to preserving a Christ-centered approach to youth development, convened in Nashville, Tennessee. Their goal was clear: to create a new organization rooted in faith, adventure, and a biblical worldview.

This group shared a collective passion for helping boys and young men grow into Godly men of integrity. They envisioned a program that not only offered outdoor adventure and leadership training but also reinforced Christian values and fostered strong relationships with God, family, and community.

Building the Foundation

The result of this meeting was the founding of Trail Life USA, officially launched in September 2013. With the motto “Walk Worthy,” based on Colossians 1:10 (“…that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work…”), Trail Life USA aimed to inspire young men to embrace their identity in Christ while enjoying the wonders of the great outdoors.

From its inception, Trail Life USA partnered with local churches, empowering them to host troops as part of their outreach and discipleship ministries. Unlike traditional scouting organizations, Trail Life USA emphasized a robust, unapologetically Christian focus, weaving biblical principles into every aspect of its program.

Growth and Legacy

Within its first year, Trail Life USA saw incredible growth, with thousands of families across the United States joining the movement. The program provided boys and young men with opportunities to explore God’s creation through camping, hiking, and outdoor adventures, while also teaching leadership, teamwork, and responsibility.
